Team Of The Month

Ringette Ontario - Team of The Month

Featured Team - March 2024

This month, Ringette Ontario would like to recognize an extraordinary team for our March ’ Team of the Month’ feature: the St. Thomas Thunder, U14B

"If there was an award for "Team of the Year", than surely the Cinderella story of the U14 St. Thomas Thunder would put them top of the list. To say this group of young women worked hard this season would be an understatement. The team had only won a single game the previous season. With only half of the team returning this year, as well as having a brand new coaching staff, everyone was unsure what exactly was in store for them. However, what was very clear from the beginning was that the team was ready and willing to put the work in and be pushed to see how far they could go. The coaches passion for the game and ability to see the potential in the team sparked a fire in the players. They went from being the bottom team in the standings to the top 6. Not only did they win games, but they went on an eight game winning streak. They placed top 3 in two tournaments. And finished the regular season so well that they were bumped into a higher playing bracket. As expected, they rose to the challenge in regionals, tying two games and only losing their last game by one goal. While they didn't get a medal as proof of their hard work, in the end, it was never about winning or losing. It was always about never giving up. They never gave up on themselves or each other. Sometimes there is so much stress put on whether a team wins or loses that they fail to recognize the lesson in everything. And the lesson is what matters. It's how they still won, even after a tough loss. The U14 St. Thomas Thunder ringette team are true winners in every sense of the word this season!"
